Russia-based metal and mining giant, Norilsk Nickel, has announced on Thursday that the company has donated 10.5 Billion RUB or 142m USD to protect its workers and to combat the further spread of Covid-19 Pandemic in the country. According to the PR News Wire News Agency, the company has said that the proposed donation amount will be used to provide the medicine and personal protection equipment (PPE) gear for the healthcare professionals in local clinics, hospital and medical care facilities.
A fraction of the proposed donation amount from 143m USD will also be used to support SMEs and company’s employees in Russia Far North Regions.
Russia’s wealthiest person and Boss of Norilsk, Nickel, Vladimir Potanin, said, “Norilsk Nickel is dealing with this crisis with a sufficient safety margin to ensure the maximum possible protection for our workers and all residents of the cities hosting our enterprises.”
“Viruses, no matter how dangerous, come and pass, but we must never lose sight of our main asset: our talented people. I have ordered additional measures to support our workers and residents in our cities. I am certain that together with our employees, the residents of our cities, as well as with the whole country, we will overcome this challenge successfully,” Russia’s richest person further added.
The company has announced that it will spend a total of 3 Billion USD on the development of basic medical infrastructure facilities in its areas of operation, which also includes the procurement of Lung Ventilators. The overall beds in the medical health care facilities would be doubled to a figure of 1000.
With the help of the local regulations, the company has directed all its employees to work from home, except those workers whose presence is necessary on site for certain operations. The company’s subsidiary, Nornickel Telecommunications, will help to provide the population with high-speed internet and will also train the employees for remote work in the company’s region of operations.
